This volume is much better than the last one. I was all sad and weepy by the end of it. T_T
Not cool, Ishida sensei.
I am not going to go into the details of the plot (too many spoilers). Its mainly about the continued chase for the daughter (Hinami) by the Doves, Mado and Amon. As readers are we put through two POVs. A human's and a ghoul's.
For a Ghoul, eating humans is the most natural state of being. Because that's how they are made. Its in their genes. And for a human, exterminating ghouls is the most obvious choice to protect the populace. For a ghoul, humans are either fodder or hypocrites. For a human, ghouls are nothing but soulless monsters. For most of them, its absurd to think of ghouls as "people" or beings with feelings. Even more absurd, is the idea that some ghouls can be categorized as "good" or "harmless". Mado, for example, thinks it is "disgusting" that a ghoul wants to be righteous and wants to "live" a "normal" and "peaceful" life. Trash. That's the adjective he uses for them. He killed Hinami's mother, who never hunted, who never hurt a living human. And Touka believes all the Doves should die. She even killed an officer, not for food, but for revenge. And he was not even directly involved in the death of Hinami's mother.
The only person who can understand the feelings and thinking of both, is Kaneki. Born a human, and turned into a ghoul, now.
The dialogue has improved in this volume. Although it's still a little...cheesy :P And Kaneki's mask is freaky!! The best mask in the series, hands down. Although I have some technical queries which are unresolved in the manga. Why cover one of the eyes? Doesn't that restrict fighting? You can't judge distance with just one eye!
Also Touka's mask in the worst. :P Does that nose look like a pair of balls or is my mind really that dirty?
I really like the character of Hinami.
There are two fight scenes. Mado vs Touka/Hinami and Amon vs Kaneki. And both were amazing! And this volume had a couple of moments with feels, even though I am not reading it for the first time. These japanese authors know how to do their feels well.
The reason I am actually re-reading this series is because I have lost the whole feel of the story and I want to start reading "Tokyo Ghoul: re". And its commendable that even a second read has not bored me one bit. Proof of how very well written this is.
